Questions Related to center, point cars

Provided By Y! Answers

a car made of ice with a key in the center point . How long would it take for the key to fall. temp 1degree C?
Question:
day time 4 degrees C and night -2. How long in seconds would it take the key to drop ?

Answer:
Of course, the key won't fall; it will slowly come down as the ice melts. But ... do you think this is a question for the Weather section of Y!A?

How do I find the center point of a dowel?
Question:
The neighbor girl brought home a a rudimentary wooden car kit home from school. She brought it to me for a bit of help. Included was a piece of 1 1/4" dowel to be cut into wheels. I want to drill the centers for an axle. How do I find the center? I can do it on paper, but is there a tip for finding the center on wood? I don't want to have to buy a special tool for the job.

Answer:
Take 2 pieces of paper which are reliably rectangular. Most paper available fits this criterion. Fold the bottom edge of one piece so that it meets the side of the sheet with the crease passing through the corner. Lay this on op of the unfolded sheet so that a straight edge is aligned and the corner with the fold through it is aligned with the corner of the unfolded sheet. put this arrangement on the end of the dowel so that the edges of the unfolded sheet are tangent to the sides of the dowel. Make a little slit about where you think the center is, and then draw a line on the end of the dowel along the folded edge of the paper. Now, turn the dowel and draw another line in the same way. Where these lines you draw intersect is the center of the dowel, or close enough for gummint work.

what should influence the aesthetics (design) of a Bike Transit Center?
Question:
my project for an architectural design class is to design an bike transit center. at this point all i need is a simple design of what the center should look like. Our goal for the design is to influence people to use bicycles rather than cars. so the design of the center could have a big influence on people. I'm not much of a bicycle person, and i think some opinions from people that enjoy biking would help. Thanks :)

Answer:
Study what the Japanese have done. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIHrmN_ptJc http://www.y outube.com/watch?v=wE4fvwTBtno http://www.geekologie.com/2008/04 /automated_bike_storage_in_japa.php Securing your bike cheap, quickly, and in complete confidence is the most important. If the bikes are being brought inside, automated wide doors would be a plus. People will be entering and leaving with their bikes so that has to be included. Functional design, easy to clean, and well lit is all that is needed once the above is accomplished.

Can I bring a point&shoot camera and/or dSLR to the Staples Center?
Question:
I'm taking my family to a Lakers game in January as a gift, and I was hoping I could bring a camera. Is this allowed? I know flash photography isn't allowed, but does that mean I can't even bring a camera in if I don't use the flash setting? Also, if I happen to bring a camera with me, then will they make me walk out to the car and put it away? Thanks!

Answer:
yes you can take a camera with you to a game many people do.. watch a game and notice all the flashes

Two cars start at the same point, but travel in opposite directions on a circular path of radius R, each at...?
Question:
speed v. While each car travels a distance less than (pi/2)R, one quarter circle, the center of mass of the two cars: http://screensnapr.com/u/fxogsx.png ATTENTION PHYSICS 1A GOOGLERS TAKING QUIZ 9 ATTENTION PHYSICS 1A GOOGLERS TAKING QUIZ 9 ATTENTION PHYSICS 1A GOOGLERS TAKING QUIZ 9 ATTENTION PHYSICS 1A GOOGLERS TAKING QUIZ 9 ATTENTION PHYSICS 1A GOOGLERS TAKING QUIZ 9 ATTENTION PHYSICS 1A GOOGLERS TAKING QUIZ 9 It's v'

Answer:
Imagine they are starting at the top of a circle. As they move away from each other they are moving fast horizontally but slow vertically. Horizontally the center of mass is still at the starting point. Vertically, the center of mass is going down, slowly at forst and then faster. After 1/4 circle they have a maximum speed down, so center of mass is going down the diameterbut at a slower speed than v until they reach the 1/4 circle point.

I live in Darien Center, NY, what would be the half way point to Clarksville, TN, if traveling by car?

Answer:
The halfway point is close to Jeffersonville, OH, outside of Columbus.

still need help with explanation and how to solve?
Question:
Suppose your coding a crazy taxi type of game. The taxi hits a parked 1300kg car on the edge of the bumper with 3300 N*m of torque. If the distance from the point of collision and the cars center of mass is 1,83m, what was the resulting angular acceleration? I believe to solve I would do this e=m/j 3300(2/5*1300*1.83m^2) =e is this correct?

Answer:
you need to know something called the moment of inertia of the car...for something like a car, this is a little tricky...look at the lists of moments at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_moments_of_inertia and see which one fits the car...you will need to know the length, width and height dimension...but once you know the moment of inertia (labeled "I"), then it is straightforward to find angular acceleration tau = I alpha or alpha = tau/I where alpha is ang momentum and tau is the torque

When a car is rolling down the street, where is the center of rotation of a tire?
Question:
In honor of Dr H (relax), who loves puzzles, this is a question that i encountered quite a number of years ago. i do know that the wheel rotates about the axle, or at least the center of the axle. but if you really look at the tire, is there a point around which it is rotating, that is itself not moving? that is, the movement of tire can be considered to consist of the forward motion of the car, plus the rotation of the tire. is there something that could be used to calculate the movement of the tire, and completely ignore the forward movement of the car? astatime, as to where is it "best" to push, that depends on what you mean by best? less force over longer distance? or more force over shorter distance? obviously if you apply force to the top of the wheel, your push is twice as far as the cart moves, but your force is multiplied by 2. that was, however, not the question. ;-) Get Real started right, but got sidetracked, staying with the same spot, as it continued off the road. Dr H's description is good at describing the energy involved, but that also was not the question asked. However, down at the end <> is what i was looking for. the history of the problem is about what was described. in an engineering class, i was asked to write an equation that described the motion of a point on the tire. everyone else started with the car motion, and added in the tire rotation. i just used the rotation based on the point of road contact. and next day, i learned that that point is called "the instantaneous center of rotation". thanks all.

Answer:
Or as I like to say...What goes around comes around! Answer: The axle of a moving (rolling) tire. This question required me to really think through several different approaches. What I concluded (and is my official answer) returned to the technical definition of balance which is the uniform distribution of mass about an axis of rotation, where the center of gravity is in the same location as the center of rotation. A balanced tire is one where mass of the tire—when mounted on its wheel and the car's axle—is uniformly distributed around the axle (its center of rotation). Some Other Thoughts... The center of rotation of a rigid object such as a tire would not necessisarily be the same as the geometric center of the tire. When an object such as a tire is designed, the object's center of rotation is placed wherever the designer wishes it to be. For the typical tire the center of rotation would be where the axel is to be attached, for a hinged gate the center would be at the hinge. I spent some time thinking about centrifugal force in attempting to solve this question also. Centrififugal force is the outward force (and it's just a another force) that comes about in a rotating system, which points away from the center of rotation. The word centripetal is from two Latin words meaning to seek the center. In the case of a tire of uniform shape, the center of rotation would be the axle from which the force radiates outwards. Likewise, centripetal force is the force that causes an object to change direction. For uniform circular motion such as that of a moving tire , the force is directed toward the center of the tire (circle) and has a magnitude given by mv2/r. For all of this to be correct, it was imperative that the tire in the question be moving. In a non-moving system the tire would be viewed as rotating around its bottom (the part not moving) instead of the axle (instant axis of rotation constantly moving forward with the tire). Think of it this way, when an object such as a tire rolls, it does not slip where it makes contact with the ground. With a car tire, there is friction between the tire and the road, and if the tire is rolling then the frictional force is a static force of friction. This is because there is no slipping, so the point on the tire in contact with the road is instantaneously at rest (and becomes the center of rotation). Hmmm. Now my mind (and fingers) are really tired! Thank you for a terrific question. Please ignore any typos. Gosh, I hope I'm right!

where are the jack points on the front of a 2001 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 need to change brakes?

look in the owners manual! sometimes it will be shown on the jack or in the trunk area!

where should be the cg point of a car and a speed boat?
Question:
i would like to know where the centre of gravity of a car and a speed boat should lie for a better performance?

Answer:
its seperate for both of them. providing your using a standard hitch and not putting one on top of the other. the ball hitch makes sure they keep seperate cg points by allowing them to swivel. anyways why would you be worried about performance if your gonna pull a boat? id be more worried about safety than performance. you can find out the cg of your car pretty easy by using a car jack on each side but the trailer and boat will be next to impossible. is it a factory trailer? factory boat? with or without engine? wheel psi? height? width? (suspension on trailer)? will give you the same cg but will also lean slightly. motionless its gonna be directly under the v hull and the closest point to the ground. ccg normally max (for safety) is about 17 degrees. as it gets higher it gets more and more accute.
